Trying to save what God will destroy

with 3 comments

I read a quote the other day that made me think of what the Emergent Church, and those who champion social justice, try to do.  It said:

“We often think of how we may change this world.  However, God’s intent is not to change this world, but to judge this world and give us a new one”.  W. Nee

That is so true.  So much of what is promoted as Christianity is filled with people who are trying to “change the world in the name of Christ”.  They take up cause like ending poverty, ridding the world of aids, getting nations to forgive each other of their debts, keep people from buying those evil Chinese goods, and all kinds of other social justice causes.  They say they want to transform this world in the name of Christ.  They want to rid the world of injustices and make it a better place.  But like this very true quote says: God’s intent is not to change this world but to judge this world AND give us a new one”.

The fact is, if you look at the life of Jesus or of one of the disciples like Paul you will not see them trying to end the social injustices of the world to make it a better place.  Jesus clearly stated His mission when He said:  “Luk 19:10  For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. Christ came to provide the means of salvation for all who would believe the gospel.  He didn’t come to end poverty or reconcile nations or end global trade. He came to save sinners from their impending doom – the coming judgment and suffering the eternal wrath of God, by provide a way for them to be adopted into God’s family.  He came to give them eternal life and prepare them for the life and kingdom to come.

It’s the same with the Apostle Paul.  Paul called himself an ambassador for Christ.  What did Paul do as an ambassador for Christ?  Did he set up soup kitchens and trying  to end world hunger?  Did he try to encourage people buy green products and save the earth?  Did he seek to partner up with world governments to eradicate aids or similar disease?  Absolutely not!  Paul clearly said:

“2Co 5:20  Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.

Paul poured out his life so that men might be reconciled to God.  But that’s really where the difference is.  Today, so many who are involved in so called good works and social justice no longer believe that men need to be reconciled to God.  After all how could such a loving God condemn such poor helpless and innocent people to hell!  They fail to see the heart of man as desperately wicked (Jer 17:9) and are unable to comprehend the righteousness of God as revealed in the scriptures.  Because they don’t understand or more accurately don’t want to see the sinfulness of man and the character of God  they create a God in their mind who is more concerned about changing this world by ridding it of social injustices instead of reconciling men to God and giving them eternal life.  They remove from their vocabulary (and bibles if they could) those negative and outdated scriptures that speak on repentance, hell, judgment, condemnation, wrath, punishment…etc.  Instead, they then focus on the selective scripture, rarely taking them in context, that speak on defending the poor and needy.  They divorce these passages from the rest of the bible and make it into their new gospel.  It’s a gospel that would never bring reproach or persecution because it doesn’t speak the truth and offers nothing different than what you can get from organization like the red cross.   The Gospel that Jesus preached is absolutely foolishness to them.  They are so intellectually wise that in their own eyes that they understand God more than God Himself!  After all they’ve rewritten the message that God gave and worked up a new one that’s more appealing to their personal ideas about God.  The fact is the god that the Emergent and social justice crowd promote is much like the Hindu god’s in India.  You can search far and wide, through all the depths of the universe looking for this god and you will never find him because he doesn’t exist.

So is God trying to change this world?  Well, not like the emergent spiritually enlightened  “progressive”  intellectual crowd would have you believe.   God certainly changes people.  That’s for sure.  God is ever working to bring people to saving faith in Jesus Christ adding them to His glorious church.  He gives them good works to walk and abound in.  Yet these good works are not so that we might make the world a better place and end every injustice.  They are to demonstrate God’s character and to lead others to saving faith in Jesus Christ and ultimately bring glory to God.  We seek, as the apostles of Jesus Christ sought, to save people “from this perverse generation” (Acts 2:40).  Believers don’t spend their days trying to find a cure for all disease and end world poverty.  Why?  For one Christ never commanded it.  And second, because disease is part of God’s judgment.  It’s part of the curse and was brought into this earth through sin and rebellion.  We can cure every disease on earth and more will spring up.  What about poverty?  Well, Jesus own words tell us that “we will always have the poor with us”.  These are the results of a world that is under the judgment and curse of God and a world that is filled with unregenerate men who do not know God.  Not that we ignore these things but Christ has not called us to dedicate our life to solving these problems “in His name” (Mark 16:15,16) and calling it the gospel.  We are to certainly care for the poor, especially among the brethren, and care for those who are suffering BUT the main focus of believers is to share the good news that God has provided a way for us to be reconciled to Him and have eternal life through Jesus Christ.  Truly many today who promote these things as “real” Christianity have erased the great commission from their bibles.

Mar 16:15:16  And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

The fact is God is not seeking to preserve this present earth and neither should we.  God is not seeking for everyone to go green, to combat global warming, or protest Chineses goods.  God’s plan is to redeem a people unto Himself, judge and destroy this earth (and the wicked in it 2 Thes 1:8,9), and give His people a new one.  Here’s a few scriptures that speak on this very thing:

2Pe 3:7  But by the same word the heavens and earth that now exist are stored up for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.

2Pe 3:10  But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

Rev 21:1  And I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth did pass away, and the sea is not any more;

God is not seeking to redeem this world.  God is redeeming men, bringing this world into a final judgment, and then giving His people a new and glorious world. If people would sincerely read the book of revelations they would soon find out what God thinks about this present world and how God plans to rectify the problems here.  If you’ll allow God to truly show you His thoughts and plan regarding this present earth you will not spend your time on the foolish pursuits of the Emergent Church and those who champion changing the world through social justice.  You’ll be compelled to give people the one thing they truly need…reconciliation with God through faith in Jesus Christ.  Instead of making this dead world that’s under the judgment of God a “slightly” better place you’ll lead people to an imperishable inheritance found in the eternal life that God gives in Christ.  Those who find this life in Christ will be prepared for the new and glorious earth that God will give when He’s done destroying this one that so many are trying to save.

A False Reformation Called Emergent

with one comment

A great article by brother Jim  exposing the falsehood of the Emergent Church movement.

For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ.  And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light.  Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works. ~ 2 Corinthians 11:13-15

I remember one of my first times feeding the poor in a ghetto of Detroit, a man was there doing the same thing in the name of satan!  He was serious too, not someone clowning around in attempt to get to the Christians.  There was an actual minister of satan helping the physical needs of the poor in the same park where Christians were also helping the physical needs of the poor!  Sadly, there are many professing believers today who have joined hands with such who minister in satan’s name even though they deceitfully refer to satan as “jesus”, “god”, or “lord”.

“Where the rotting corpse of western evangelical Christianity is, there the emergent vultures have gathered.”

Jesus warned us of these last days with similar words and I would like to extend that warning to any true saints of God who may be caught up in the emergent church movement at the present time.  This movement seeks to remain as ambiguous as possible on its doctrines and practices so let me first clarify what I am referring to when I say emergent.  The easiest thing to do is name popular teachers of this movement such as Rob Bell and Brian Mcleran.  Many of the popular themes surrounding the movement include “social justice”, “repainting the Christian faith”, and having a “more generous orthodoxy”.  Do not be deceive though; the goal of the emergent movement is not to bring about social justice, to care for the poor, or to find common ground with the muslim that he may be brought to truth in Christ.  The goal of the emergent movement is to defile the professing Church with idolatry and to deceive the very elect of God if that were possible.  Caring for the poor, social justice and interfaith unity are merely the outward means by which the movement seeks to accomplish its goal.

While writing this article I was lead to so some research on child sex predators (which may sound like a strange thing at first). It seems though, that these predators often target children from broken homes where they are ignored, abused, or unloved.  The predator forms a relationship with the child, stresses what a terrible thing it is that they are unloved at home and then makes themselves the missing piece in the child’s life.  This is exactly what the spiritual predators of the emergent church are doing with the younger generation.  They accurately identify many areas of hypocrisy and deadness in the evangelical church, but then offer themselves and their perverted way as the solution to the problem.  Because their parent’s generation has largely made a mockery of the Gospel, despite having orthodox fundamental beliefs, these false teachers need only identify this obvious hypocrisy to gain enough credibility with the young and naïve to win their trust.  Yet we know this type of predatory relationship ends in shame and disgrace for the child and the severest punishment of the law for the predator.  Consider what a horrible day of shame it will be when those who abandoned the dead evangelical church scene only to embrace a more sick and perverted form of empty godliness stand before the Lord and hear Him say “depart from me you worker of iniquity, I never knew you”.

Let me share a parable of a lost backpacker in the desert who stumbles upon a vulture.  The vulture says “hey, someone must have given you bad directions; you are going to die out here”.  The vulture then proceeds to tell the thirsty hiker that there is water a short way up the trail, when in fact he is only pointing him to a dry river bed below his nest where he will feed on the hiker’s dead body.  “We need to re-invent church, Jesus was mainly about helping the poor and social justice, come walk this broad path of new christianity”, sure sounds a lot like “You need to head in a new direction; there is water for the thirsty up that way”.  It will ultimately cost those who go the way of the emergent movement their eternal souls.  True, the dead orthodoxy of our day has left them spiritually thirsty and in a very dry place, but there are no living waters in the direction where the vultures of the emergent movement are leading them.

Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world. ~ James 1:27

The first half of James 1:27 is a power verse of the emergent movement though they always seem to leave out the second part.  This is for good reason when we consider the incredible amount of worldliness and idolatry among emergents.  If you follow home the average emergent church member (or visit their blogs) you will see they are very much in love with the fallen things of this world and the love of God does not dwell in them (1 John 2).  The truth is that professing followers of Christ can team up with, throw an occasional sandwich at the homeless, and petition the government to find a cure for aids all of their life and still spend eternity in the lake of fire.  There are many more examples of Gods righteous judgment then the sheep and goats taught in scripture, and many will surely be damned by them if they think eternal life is found in some pretense of helping their neighbor.  If these people saw sin for what it truly is, and “how guilty they have been of advancing its cause on earth” they would know that their attempts at social justice and loving their neighbor leaves them no better off than the career criminal who also helps an old lady cross the street once in a while.   Men need forgiveness and cleansing for their crimes against the one true Holy God on His exclusive terms first and foremost!  Always remember that the first greatest commandment is towards God, not men.

Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites,  nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.  ~ 1 Corinthians 6:9-10

These words were written to professed followers of Christ.  God cannot be bribed to overlook our sins because of our good works, the soul that sins it shall surely die.  Just as a judge will not let a career criminal go free because he has volunteered at a soup kitchen a few times, God will also uphold His Holy law and punish to the uttermost those who have broken it.  There is no hope for any person outside of truly having their sins washed away and being made a brand new creation by placing their faith in Jesus Christ.  This does not come by acknowledging Him as a social activist, mere prophet, good teacher, or even as Savior or Lord as demons know that much about Jesus.  We must accept Him completely on His terms according to His word, and He has a lot more to say then acting out social justice.  Whoever has not been made a brand new creation through a saving faith in Him is still dead in sin and God’s wrath abides upon them.  They need not dare speak of furthering the cause of Christ on this earth through so called good works unless they have been born again, from a fallen sinful image into the likeness of Christ.  When this takes place they will know plainly that social justice will not buy their way into the kingdom and loving our neighbor as ourselves does not involve denying the holy justice of God against sinners or joining hands of unity with idolaters to bring about social change (ie

Jesus asked what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul?  Likewise, what does it profit to feed a man’s belly but not feed him true bread from heaven?  There will surely be many of the world’s poor cursing emergent church members in hell forever for not giving them true bread from heaven and only offering them another jesus (emergent jesus), and another gospel (social justice) that did not bring them to a saving faith in the real Jesus (Bible Jesus).  Those sandwiches given to the homeless (and donations) will not be much appreciated a thousand years from now my emergent friend!  I would serious except to have hordes of damned homeless people thronging around you and cursing you in hell forever.  Will you then dare to lift up your eyes to them and declare what a wonderful agent of social change you were on the earth?

“The world isn’t waiting for a new definition of Christianity; it is waiting for a new demonstration of it”. ~ Leonard Ravenhill

By the way, this is written by someone who home Churches and has spent a great amount of his Christian life helping the inner city poor while also proclaiming the whole council of the word of God so please do not label me as a “fundy” that does not understand the true message of Christ.  Just because many false followers of Jesus in the evangelical church ignore the first half of James 1:27 does not excuse the false followers of Jesus in the emergent Church that ignore the second half.  Over the years I have seen both ministers of satan and Christ’s true Church out on the streets serving the poor in “the name of Jesus”.  I have noticed a profound difference between the two I would like to share (this is just an observation but I believe it will stand up to the fire of that day).  Christ’s true Church continually upholds the whole council of the word of God such as sin, righteousness, judgment, hell, and the exclusive means of salvation found in Christ (even if not always spoken or understood perfectly).  The emergent’s not only are silent on such things, deep down they actually despise these truths that the word of God clearly teaches from cover to cover.  Considering that these truths reveal the very essence and nature of the one true God, I can only conclude that the emergents actually despise the God of the Bible.

Reader, do not get caught up in this false reformation called emergent!  God is doing a true work outside of today’s dead western church scene, but the emergent movement is the devils counterfeit to this work.  If you have escaped the dead, self indulgent, evangelical church scene consider it better to seek living water in your Bible and prayer closet then to take directions from the emergent vultures who are ministers of satan in disguise. Humble yourself before the God of the Bible and ask Him to give you a new heart in Christ that conforms to His every precept.  Now THAT would be a true reformation and could bring about radical social change!
